No leave to appeal granted regarding Viscaria’s environmental permit

Positive news from the Land and Environment Court of Appeal! At this week’s board meeting in Kiruna, we received the welcome news that the Land and Environment Court of Appeal has denied the leave to appeal against Viscaria’s environmental permit. If the decision is not further appealed, the environmental permit will come into force on December 5, 2024.

“We are very pleased that the court has not granted leave to appeal. We can now continue our preparations to reopen the Viscaria copper mine with full force,” says our CEO, Jorgen Olsson.

The background to today’s decision is the May 6, 2024 ruling, which was appealed by Gabna Sami Village and three private individuals, along with the Norrbotten County Administrative Board. Viscaria and Laevas Sami Village, however, had previously decided to withdraw their appeals.
