The decision of the Environmental Court of Appeal (MÖD) to deny leave to appeal the environmental permit for Viscaria has been appealed to the Supreme Court by Gabna Sami village. The deadline for any further appeals is midnight tonight. The Supreme Court will determine whether the appeal should be considered.
The permit for mining and water activities at the Viscaria mine was granted by the Environmental Court on May 6, 2024. The Environmental Court of Appeal's (MÖD) decision on November 6, 2024, to deny leave to appeal the Environmental Court's permit was today subsequently appealed by Gabna Sami village to the Supreme Court, which will decide whether the appeal should be considered.
"We continue our preparations to reopen the Viscaria copper mine with full force. We believe that the conditions set by the court are both reasonable and in line with the proposals we ourselves have presented, and we assess that there are good prospects for the permit becoming final soon, despite the appeal," says Jörgen Olsson, CEO of Viscaria.
